An elderly female pedestrian was struck and killed by an elderly driver in a South Pasadena church parking lot on Saturday evening.

The accident happened about 6:10 p.m. in the parking lot of the Holy Family Catholic Church on Fremont Ave. in South Pasadena. The 93-year-old female driver, a Pasadena resident, was backing up her Jaguar XJ6 when she struck 86-year-old Elizabeth Cherry, a South Pasadena resident. Cherry was preparing to get into her car when she was hit.

According to the South Pasadena police department, the victim was dragged beneath the Jaguar over 100 feet, until the car struck a block wall.

The victim was still beneath the car when first responders arrived at the scene of the accident. Firefighters extricated Cherry from beneath the car. She was transported to Huntington Hospital, and pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.
