A crossing guard was struck by a car and killed in Monterey Park on Tuesday.
The accident happened just after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Garfield Ave. and Elmgate Ave. The teenage driver of a convertible lost control of his vehicle and went up onto the sidewalk, striking the crossing guard. The victim worked at Macy Intermediate School.
The accident happened directly across the street from Monterey Park Fire Station 42.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male whose mother was a passenger in the car at the time of the accident, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
According to the Monterey Park Police Department, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
